Gloucester
27th August 2010
The delays in Gloucester provided ample opportunity for photographic expeditions in the dock and the wider city.
Before we leave the area I thought it would be a good idea to post a selection of my favourites. So, less words and more photos today.
First a few images from round the docks including the old harbour pump which could lift an international swimming pool every two minutes - the new electric ones have twice the capacity. Also a new structure being erected in the marina. I don't know its name, but it bears a resemblance to the Skylon seen at the Great Exhibition.
Big Pump and the new "skylon"
Seaman's Church on the docks
Then there are a few shots from round the outside of the incredible cathedral:
The Gatehouse and the new "mason" standing beside the main entrance.
The cathedral on profile
A Norman window
" Bigfoot" in the cathedral grounds, and the local parish church with its missing spire top in the foreground
Chiming clock with figures that mark every quarter hour.
Medieval woodwork
The New Inn where Shakespeare actually played.
Great photos - they're evoking lovely memories of our own visit to the area..
ReplyDeleteWas it you doing the photography course? How are you getting on?

Hi Sue
ReplyDeleteYes, I was doing the OU photography course - it finished in August. It was really useful and I think my photography has improved as a result. The downside is that I am how far more self critical!
